Back in 2012, my friend Kate Angell and I started the NYC Feminist Zinefest. We dreamed of a space that could hold the brilliant creativity of our communities around queer/feminist concerns, in a world that often pushes these perspectives to the margins. We organized our first event at Bluestockings Bookstore, and soon afterwards, held a larger event at the Brooklyn Commons. Since 2013, the event has been held at Barnard College, with the support and of Barnard Zine Librarian (and zinefest co-organizer!) Jenna Freedman.
Around that time, four other cities picked up the inspiration: suddenly, there were feminist zinefests popping up in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Boston, and even Hamilton, Ontario (in Canada)!
Co-Organizers over the years include:
Jenna Freedman, Jordan Alam, Jade Levine, Verne of Word Up! Books, Suze Myers, Lili Finckel, Pooja Desai, Kate Angell, Cassandra Leville, and many other wonderful collaborators!
