I first learned the program through a post by Kyunghyun Cho (NYU). I'm attracted as I can actually have a chance to get ideas from more than one research labs which would help my research.
I just went through the portal. I chose my supervisors based on recommendations from people that I have worked with.
My primary supervisor is Iryna Gurevych (Darmstadt) while my secondary supervisor is Prof. André Martins (Lisbon). I find having two supervisors super interesting. UKP (TU Darmstadt) is a place where I can have a chance to work on applied topics, and SARDINE Lab (IT & IST) is where I can combine both applied topics and a bit of theory together. That is why I now work a lot of super interesting ideas of decoding that can be easily applied on code generation. It is super fun and I think instrumental for the topic.
I was first attracted as Prof Sam Bowman (NYU & Anthropic) mentioned that André is a super great supervisor. I enjoyed doing research with André and the SARDINE lab of course. I also enjoyed the city of Lisbon as it's both relaxing and inspiring for research going on. I would definitely encourage people to apply.
I have connected with quite a lot of people working on code generation. I met them at ELLIS Doctoral Symposium back in 2021. I believe we can have further collaborations from now on since there have already been some nice works come out from all sides.
I would for sure do. Personally, I do enjoy working with two professors that are specialized in different things, and generally I would say working with different professors are nice, and that European research always encourages solid works which I'm happy to take lessons from as well.
