The Tembe Elephant Park is teaming with wildlife. From the smallest sand fleas, ticks and mosquitoes to the largest elephants, giraffe, and rhino and the most dangerous buffalo , hippo, crocodiles, lions, pythons and leopards. Nyala and impala are the most common antelope, we also saw waterbuck, kudu and red duiker.
The animals that were not spotted were rhino and leopard, however we did see evidence of these animals.
Tembe also has a large variety of birdlife and is a paradise for bird watchers. To capture good pictures of birds, you need a good camera, patience and skill.
We saw elephant virtually everyday and in many cases they blocked the road. All one can do is pull-off the road, switch the engine off and wait patiently for the elephant(s) to pass.
