We had an early breakfast as the day's ride was going to be long.
The first 50km is through a nature reserve. The last 50km is through farmlands. Both sections are awesome, however the first 50km includes winding roads and a few water crossings. If I counted correctly, there are 80 river crossings, however most are dry crossings.
One long river crossing consists of a rocky base with round large loose stones. The only way to get through is to stand-up, look-up, speed-up and keep your focus on the far side .
During the one river crossing, I took the left side of the road and Sean took the right side. I ended up going through a huge dip resulting in both the bike and myself being drenched from the splash - See the photo below with Sean standing in the hole. Luckily we got through without any hiccup.
We stopped at the halfway mark to enjoy Boere Coffee and rusks at the farm stall. Our next stop was Willowmore where we stopped at a quaint little restaurant for Lunch.
Sean looking very relieved for getting through after I went through the big dip.
We stopped in Graaf Reinet for fuel. Every time I travel through Graaf Reinet, I always enjoy looking at the beautiful and well maintained church.
We arrived at the Karoo Country Inn, in Middelburg, at about 18h00. First activity, as usual, was a cold beer before checking in.
