Riding Time: 5h53
Total Distance: 309km
Passes Traveled (4): Maraiskloof Pass, Swaerhoek Pass, Zuurberg Pass & Doringnek Pass.
We departed after breakfast and it was already hot. We made a point to carry extra water.
Advice: My riding jacket includes a 2 litre water bladder and I make a point of drinking all the water by the time I reach my destination.
After Cradock, we continued along gravel roads until R63 to Somerset West. From Somerset West we took the R335 gravel road to Stonefountain.
We stopped at Anne's Villa at the start of the Zuurberg pass to view the old farm workshop.
No-one appears to live in the Villa. You pay a small fee to view the workshop.
We headed up the steep and winding Zuurberg pass. The road was very stony and you had to keep your wits about you.
This time it was Sean's opportunity to introduce his motorbike to the road surface.
We reached the top of the pass and stopped at the lovely Zuurberg Inn for a beer and cooled down in the shade. We love this Inn and have enjoyed a number Christmases with the Family at the Inn and enjoyed the sumptuous Christmas lunches.
We continued down the Doringnek Pass to the Sundays River Valley. About 1.5km before the R335 joins the R342, we turned right along the gravel road to Enon, Kirkwood and Broadlands where we met our families to enjoy Christmas together.
