This trip was short and easy with some gravel roads. We left well after 09h00 and the temperature was already climbing.
The route took us through beautiful countryside that had received summer rains.
When we stopped to take a picture of the lovey view, my motorbike rolled forward off it's side stand and fell over.
We took the last 30km before Hofmeyer slowly as Sean was feeling the heat and was suffering from mild heatstroke. Just as well because we saw some buck on the side of the road and they tend to jump in front of a vehicle if frightened.
We booked into the Karoobos Lodge. Secure parking is provided at the back of the hotel which also gives direct access to the rooms.
We enjoyed a couple of cold beers at the Karoobos Lodge pub where we met a couple of locals along with some of the hotel residents.
By then it had cooled down a little and we took a walk through the gravel streets of Hofmeyer. After the walk we went to our rooms to shower and cleanup before dinner.
Dinner was great and included delicious Karoo Lamb chops.
Hofmeyer is located in a very dry part of the Karoo and suffers the extreme summer and winter temperatures.
The town is well known for endurance horse riding, has a beautiful well maintained church and a museum.
The Karoobos shop opposite the hotel sells lovely mohair knitted items and includes artifacts from another era.
