Arts Therapy: Listening Helps Children Tune in to their Potential
Griselda Murray Brown
Ahmad Naser Sarmast is the direcotr of the Afghanistan National Institiute of Music and leads a program to train 10-21 year olds classical music. He leads their instruction by having his students listen to live music and encourage them to listen and feel the vibrations. He believes that his view on how to teach students to play instruments can support them in all aspects of their lives. He has seen his students use listening as a therapy tool. His students are more focused and can concentrate for longer periods of time. His hopes is to revive and train professional musicians but what he is doing is far greater than that. He is helping students meet their potential and are preparing them to be successful in anything they do.
