Activity Ideas :
Name of Activity/Game: Let's Create Geometrical Structures !
Objective : M.2.2.1.2. Creates structures using shape models and draws the structures created.
The teacher shows examples of structures they can create with geometric shapes on the smart board. Geometric shapes are created by the teacher. Students can also get inspired by these examples or create these examples with shapes. Students are free to use their creativity. They are expected to create the structure they want together with their group friends. The only requirement in this activity is to create a structure using more than one geometric shape. Students are given glue and colored pencils and told that they can decorate and add as they wish over time.
Name of Activity/Game: GeoBingo
Objective :
M.2.2.1.1. Classifies geometric shapes according to the number of sides and vertices.
a) The similarities and differences of triangles, squares, rectangles, circular regions and circles are explained.
b) Students work on whether a given geometric shape is similar to other geometric shapes.
M.2.2.1.3. Recognizes and distinguishes cube, square prism, rectangular prism, triangular prism, cylinder and sphere on models.
a) Objects are introduced formally without mentioning their geometric properties.
b) Objects that can be encountered in daily life (ping pong ball, milk carton, bottle, etc.) are used
Wordwall Link for random cards
The teacher announces an activity called "GeoBingo" to wrap up the Geometry unit. Students are paired with different shapes (e.g., triangle, square, cube) and given images of these shapes. The teacher explains the rules using Canva: students will receive bingo cards and cover shapes on their cards that match features displayed on the smart board. Students representing the shapes will stand up to verify answers.Students choose their bingo cards face down to introduce an element of chance. The teacher then uses Wordwall to display features, and students cover matching shapes on their cards. The teacher checks for accuracy and provides feedback. The game continues until a student covers all shapes on their card and calls out "bingo," at which point they are congratulated.
Name of Activity/Game: Edge Game
Objective: M.3.2.1.4 Realizes that shapes are named according to the number of their sides.
The teacher introduces an engaging competition focusing on memory and shape recognition skills. Geometric shapes such as triangles, circles, squares, pentagons, hexagons, heptagons, octagons, and nonagons are displayed on the whiteboard. Students are split into two groups, each led by a representative holding a cardboard sheet. Two volunteers are chosen to match number cards with the corresponding shapes on their group's sheet. Students compete to correctly match the shapes with the numbers, and any mistakes are noted for later discussion. The first group to complete the task accurately earns points. As the game progresses, the difficulty level increases with more numbers, and new volunteers participate in subsequent rounds. The activity concludes with applause and a discussion about the lessons learned.
Name of Activity/Game: 3D Geometric Objects-Moving with Rope
Expansions of geometric shapes are drawn and cut from cardboard. By adding threads to the edges and corners, the expansions of geometric shapes are combined.

Name of Activity/Game: Making Snowflakes
Tesellation Art
First, show the students colored papers and explain that snowflakes need to be symmetrical. Then, instruct each student to cut out a series of squares or triangles, ensuring each piece is the same size. Ask them to assemble the cut pieces to create different patterns and to glue them together once they have formed the shape of a snowflake. During this process, allow students to unleash their creativity in forming patterns. Finally, display the students' snowflake designs and emphasize that each one is unique. Explain to students how tessellation art integrates with mathematics, allowing them to develop both art and math skills in this activity.
Name of Activity/Game: Creating a robot from geometric objects
The teacher brings various geometric shapes to the classroom. Attention is drawn to the fact that these materials are recyclable. Materials such as medicine boxes and toilet paper rolls can be given as examples of geometric objects. The teacher asks the students to create robots with these geometric objects. Thanks to this activity, students' imaginations are supported while they create structures with geometric objects. Afterwards, the students' knowledge is reinforced by asking them which 3D geometric shapes they used in the robot they created.
Symmetry Game :
It is an activity designed to reinforce students' symmetry learning. It is an activity that can be presented to students in the classroom or individually.
Online Educational Game :
Wordwall : https://wordwall.net/tr/resource/8469848/geometrik-%C5%9Fekiller
It is suitable for 1st grade level. It can be used when students are learning geometric shapes. It was prepared using the theme of Wheel of Fortune. Each student spins the wheel and tells them what shape the object looks like.
Wordwall : https://wordwall.net/tr/resource/15361183/geometrik-%C5%9Fekiller-ve-geometrik-cisimler
It can be used to measure students' knowledge about geometric objects. This activity was created using the Quiz Show theme via wordwall. The challenge with this activity is that there is a time constraint. Students are also asked to be able to find the correct answer quickly.
