Visual Design for Educators

Design is incredibly important for teachers because I honestly believe when we pay attention to details, it teaches our kids to do the same. Also, when we show we have put thought and effort into the design of something, we are setting the stage for the work we want from our students. A visually appealing and well designed HyperDoc guarantees your students will be able to focus on key content without being distracted.

Design is equally significant for students to focus on because it is setting the stage for quality work for a long time to come. I wish I had learned more about design when I was in school because I feel it is a skill everyone needs in life. Students do not have to go into a design career to be aware of good design and how it can positively add to their work.

Accessible design is a must so all people can interact, enjoy, and have an equal experience on the web or with an app. It’s about making the web and apps work well for all people with all types of disabilities. Every person should be able to interact on the web and experience apps without issues.

This is my first attempt at a Banner/Logo, and I have a lot of room to improve. This is not a final product, but yet a work in progress!

If I were to make a T-Shirt to describe my teaching philosophy, it would be this!

This is a Remix of an old lesson. The task: apply what I learned in this two-week design course and remix a lesson. On the left, I have a background which is ok, a graphic which is the same throughout the slide deck, and a font which is not very "Primary" (The lesson is for first grade.) The remix version is more pleasing to the eye with a solid background, the picture is cute, and the font is easier to read for the little ones. The goal of the assignment was to have my fifth graders teach the First Grade Tech Buddy how to drag and drop text boxes around to a new location.
