Diversity
The Content Vocabulary for this unit helped us have a better understanding and it was very fun collaborating with other cohort members. Marci and Amanda both teach at a rural school in Wyoming. Researching and diving deeper into the vocab helped us all have a strong foundation and there were a few words we did not know, but now they will be a part of our vocabulary in the classroom.
The Diversity Mini Lesson was a fun activity to put what I have learned into practice. I chose to focus on one of my passions, Special Olympics. My lesson describes and asks students to find the similarities before they look at the differences. I know this a tall ask for humans in general, but we have to start looking at the core of people and come together. It sounds so corny, but the world needs more love. We are so divided right now and it is up to this generation of kids to Be The Change in the world. I have high hopes for these kids, IF we take the time to teach and model acceptance of all, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, opinions, political views, etc.
