"A bird came down the walk - he did not know I saw "
Poet describes about a everyday situation, happens in the environment. Nature has taught the animals to be self sufficient and independent unlike greedy and dependent and human being. Nature is so innocent and never disturb others. Therefore the bird also not aware of the presence of the poet. Why did it walk down lane instead of flying? The bird provides and answers for that question.
"He bit an angel worm in halves - And ate the fellow raw "
Poet describes the bird as a person who is having a walk. However the pure picture of the bird comes to a sudden distraction with eating the Angel worm by him. The accepted , civilized life style of the bird besides to an unacceptable , cruel one. But it portrays the self sufficient ,independent nature of the bird. Nature never waits till someone sacrifice behalf of them as human being. Bird's behavior has arranged according to the rules of the nature. If he eats flesh of another animal , that is the way how nature taught to them to survive themselves. It is their doubtless innocence.
"And he drank a dew from convenient grass - And hopped sidewise to the wall to let the beetle pass"
The bird drinks a dew from a convenient grass. Unlike human they always live according to the nature. Even though human being consumes a lot of poisonous food ,the bird appreciate the simple meal provided by the nature. Poet highlights the bird's trust and the subtle intelligence on nature. Human being is the huge example for over consumption . They spend their money and all eccentricities beyond their necessity. However the bird provides a great example for those stereotyped human. He had just finished his meal, therefore he let the beetle go. Nature is not greedy as human. Through these lines nature provides an exemplary story for human being not to be greedy, but too know their limits.
" He glanced with rapid eyes - That hurried all abroad"
This is another nature that human being posses but human being do not possess. Bird is very conscious about his surrounding. Poet descries it according to the view of the bird. Mostly human being faces great losses due to lack of conscious. But nature has taught its followers the way to survive. Modern human do not follow nature, so he doesn't know any of thee teachings of nature.
