Alfred Lord Tennyson have creatively depicted the power , harshness and the consequence of the nature through his poem " The Eagle ".
He clasps the crag with crooked hands"
Use of the personification " her" Tennyson compares the eagle to a person who controls natural power. With the use of alliteration ( clasps the crag with crooked hands) he clearly depicts the ruling nature and harshness of ownership. Holding something smoothly makes a huge contrast with clasping something with crooked hands. Definitely , Tennyson tries to show the harsh reality of the power wield to conquer.
"Close to the sun in lonely lands"
From this line , poet tries to give superpowers to eagle. He describes the eagle as a god . He describes the eagle as a god like figure. Sun is the creature who stands above all. No one can pass him or even reach him. However the eagle stands close to the sun and it highlights the mighty power the eagle possess. The lonely lands highlights the undisturbed natural surrounding and his nature of ling. The one who has an immense power always stay alone not mingling with powerless.
"Ring'd with the azure world he stands"
Eagle notices the world through blue color .. Blue is always stands with royalty and noble life style. The eagle who is high and survives without any issues , departing from the world.
"The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls "
' The wrinkled sea changes' the point of view of the poem nd the eagle. According to the eagle's view he is aware about all the things happen in the world and can see even a subtle incident occur underneath him. Also the powerless always has to crawl to the mighty creature to live or survive. However , helpless has to depend on powerful for everything.
He watches from his mountain walls"
Normally , a high cliff is the home of an eagle . He stays isolate ,not becoming a part of the world. He is well aware about the world but he does not stay close to it . The word ' his ' implies accumulation of power. The eagle reigns his natural fortress undisturbed by the fuss of the world. Here, eagle can be compared to the mighty people, who stays separate from the world without affecting the hazards and crisis distract the world.
" and like a thunderbolt he falls"
Thunderbolt is a natural force. Poet compares eagle to a thunderbolt, mighty and straight. Nothing can be persisted eternal. Every living and non-living creatures has to sop their journeys at a point. no matter mighty or powerless, it is the low of nature.
