From 5th century onwards , English language ( lingua franca) has undergone many changes in its form and style . When we pay our attention towards the history of English language many modifications and alterations can be seen. With these gradual alterations in the language many grammatical concepts and literally terms were introduced to ease of communication and to deepen the value of the composition. " Poetic Devices" were mainly used to deliver a message to the reader given by the narration in a rhythmic form.
Uses of the poetic devices
To add sound of words.
to enhance the meaning of the word.
To arrange the words in the sequence or order.
To create an imagery in reader's mind through words.
To make the poem more meaningful.
Simile - Make a comparison to depict the similarities between two different things.
Twinkle twinkle little star ….. like a diamond in the sky.
Metaphor - Draws a comparison between unrelated thing in a hidden way.
Thy eternal summer shall not fade.
Irony - The use of words to convey a meaning by using language that normally means the opposite.
The biggest dog in the world is named Tiny.
Onomatopoeia - Creation of words, describing its sounds.
Splash, Murmur , Bang, Buzz
Rhyme - correspondence of sounds between words or the endings of the words
I saw cat who wore a big hat
Alliteration - The recurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of the closely related words.
sally sells sea shells by the sea shore.
Personification - The attribution of human characteristics to something non human.
The sun smiled down on the athletes.
Flashback - A sense that is a memory from an event in the past.
As I was sitting in the coffee shop , I couldn't help but think of the last time was there.
Foreshadowing - A sense that predicts an event in the future.
Hyperbole - Exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally.
I told you a million times.
Allusion - Bringing something to mind without mentioning it specifically.
I am surprised his nose doesn't grow like Pinocchio's.
Symbolism - One object represents something else.
A national flag is a symbol of freedom.
Cliche - An overused remark
No news is good news.
Idioms - The expression means something other than the literal meaning of the individual words.
He really bit off more than he could chew.
Oxymoron - A phrase in which contradictory words appear side by side.

Assonance - Two or ore words that close to each other and repeats the same vowel sound.
Consonance - Repetition of the sounds that are produced by the consonants in in the phrase or a sentence.
