Community Investments
Fair Finance Fund (FFF): 20,000$ in October 2025
Ontario-based non-profit social finance organization that supports local food and farm enterprises in accessing the capital and mentorship they need to grow and thrive. The organizations they support include farms, fisheries, markets, bakeries, broweries, wineries, suppliers, etc. They invest the the income from community bonds across Ontario, aiming to support projects in equity-deserving regions (e.g. Northern Ontario).
Kensington Market Community Land Trust (KMCLT): 30,000$ in December 2025
Community-based non-profit corporation whose mandate is to acquire and use land within Toronto’s Kensington Market neighbourhood for the purpose of community benefit. They aspire to counter gentrification, and keep rents reasonable to ensure longtime residential tenants, legacy businesses and family-run commercial tenants remain in the neighbourhood. KMCLT owns and operates three properties (40 affordable residential units and 17 commercial spaces).
Equities Investments
No new investments.
Membership
EIG is limited to 50 members, due to securities regulations. We currently have a number of spaces available. Find out how you can become a member.
New Investments
EIG's investment committees periodically draft proposals for potential new investments, which are distributed to all EIG members for a vote. Examples of both community proposals and equities proposals can be found on this website. All EIG members are encouraged to make investment suggestions, with reasons, to the relevant committee for further evaluation and potential proposal to the partnership as a whole. This can be done by any means, from a simple email to a fully drafted proposal following the examples mentioned above.
Interested in starting your own socially responsible investment club?
EIG as mentor: we can help! For legal reasons, no more than 50 people can be partners in EIG at any one time. Part of EIG’s mission, however, is to share its knowledge and experience with others who might be interested in starting their own SR investment club. Members have, for example, helped a few other groups in Montreal create investment clubs based on the EIG model. If you are interested in starting your own club, we suggest you browse this website for information on how we are organized, our operations and policies. If you would like further assistance, please contact us by email.

"EIG provides an alternative to the mutual funds and other investments available to the common investor. I feel actively engaged in where my money is going, and feel really good knowing I haven't indirectly participated in activities around the globe that I feel are harmful to other people and environments." Anne Coyle, writer
"Through EIG, I have learnt a lot about ethical and social investing and become friends with a very interesting, fun and passionate group of people." Elisabeth Patterson, lawyer
"In particular EIG has helped me learn about community investments and the ways that our savings can be used to support microfinancing projects locally, nationally and internationally." Ken Thorpe, financial advisor
