When the quarantine due to COVID-19 was first announced in 2020, people started panic buying. Shelves of food and supplies were bought and taken home. While everybody was worried, every family had access to food, water, and basic hygiene supplies.
COVID-19 changed the way we interacted with Ramadan. That year there was no going to the Masjid for Iftari, Taraweeh was set up and held very differently and while it was unfortunate, at the end of our fasts, we still had enough food on our table to satiate our hunger and quench our thirst. We realized that, for many people, that was a luxury that was not as easily attainable.
The pandemic destroyed the livelihoods of millions of people around the world with millions of children going hungry – not knowing if their parents will be able to get a single meal a day for them.
That year, we asked our parents not to buy new clothes, or give us any eidi, and to contribute the money to a campaign to help hungry children instead. We then created EidAid in hopes of inspiring our friends and family to do the same.
We realized that we could all make a difference, and that starts with you.
Donate to EidAid and help ensure that many hungry children get a meal and do not have to continue fasting even after Ramadan ends.
