Meet our Team

Mallavarapu Ammaji is a Ph.D student in the department of Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering since August 2022. She did her B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from RGUKT-Basar and M.Tech from Andhra University. During her Master, Ammaji opted for a project on weight reduction of marine hatch cover by design optimization as her master thesis. Currently, she is working on the further development of Ni-based superalloys used for the high temperature application with the eventual aim of efficient and wider utilization of these alloys. Apart from experimental exploration of complex microstructure of Ni-based superalloys, Ammaji is also developing an experimentally informed micromechanical model for these alloys which could be instrumental in designing new high performance alloys to meet the extraordinary demands of aviation industry.

She calls herself a foodie and loves to learn Sanskrit. Her hobbies include yoga and meditation, portrait sketching, singing, playing basketball and reading mythological epics.

She is always on the look out for innovative ideas to collaborate particularly in the field of Mechanics of Materials. Feel free to shoot her an email at 222031003@iitdh.ac.in

Rajbardhan Kumar Sinha is a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in the EICMD lab from March 2023. He did his B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from DIT University, Dehradun and M.Tech in Machine Design from BIT Sindari. Currently he is the main driving force for DST funded project aiming at improving Room Temperature (RT) formability and overall mechanical behavior of Mg alloys by texture alteration using Friction Stir Processing (FSP) and other deformation processing routes. Broader aim of this R&D project is to design and develop the Mg Alloys as lightest structural materials to be used in automotive and aerospace sectors. Rajbardhan is heavily involved in developing different materials processing, materials testing and heat treatment setups for Mg alloy study.

His other research interests are high entropy alloys, Phase Change Materials (PCMs) and High temperature deformation. He likes to play table-tennis and Volleyball and has a keen interest in spirituality, Indian history and politics.

Summer Interns

Santoshkumar S. Otageri joined our team as a UG Research Intern in May 2024, where he has been actively working on micromechanical modeling of dual-phase steels and employing machine learning to predict their mechanical properties. His research focuses on studying the effect of martensite phase characteristics on the mechanical properties of the steel. In addition to his work on DP steels, he is also exploring the area of michromechanical modelling of Lithium-ion battery electrodes. Upon completing his B.Tech in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering from NIT Surathkal, he is planning to pursue PhD in the field of Materials Science and engineering.

Outside his academic pursuits, he is keenly interested in astronomy and loves studying about stars and constellations.

Want to collaborate with Santoshkumar, feel free to reach out at santus7872@gmail.com

Aditya Singh joined EICMD team as a UG Research Intern in May 2024, where he has been actively involved in heat-treatment and processing of dual-phase (DP) steels, in addition to collaborating on computational aspects of predicting the micromechanical behavior of DP steels. His research focuses on obtaining DP steels with varying microstructural constituents using different heat-treatment strategies and establishing microstructure-property relationship. In addition to his summer stint on DP steels, he is also exploring the area of advanced thermomechanical treatments of titanium alloys to enhance their employability for biomedical applications. Upon completing his B.Tech in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering from IIEST Shibpur, he is planning to pursue a career in the R&D sector, specifically within metallurgical engineering.

Outside of his academic life, he likes to indulge himself in case studies on trending social and economic topics and creates informative videos about those.

Want to collaborate with Aditya, feel free to reach out at Kshitizsingh903@gmail.com.

Former Members

Anurag Sadhukhan joined EICMD lab at MMAE, IIT Dharwad as PhD student in August 2022. In his short tenure at our lab, he worked on micromechanical behavior of Mg alloys with the eventual aim of developing them as lightweight HCP alloys for transport and aviation sectors.

Unfortunately, he had to leave us for some personal reasons. Currently, he is working as research scholar at IIT Madras. We wish him best for his bright future.

Siddharth Nicholas Wala joined EICMD lab at MMAE, IIT Dharwad as UG Research Intern in August 2023. During his tenure at our lab, he worked on Crystal Plasticity modeling of Martensite Phase Fraction on tensile and fatigue properties of dual phase steels with the eventual aim of design and development of high performance multi-phase steels for automotive applications.

After finishing his undergrad from IIT Dharwad, Siddharth is looking forward to join Purdue University in the USA to start his MS in Aerospace Engineering. We wish him the best for his future endeavours.
