Satyapriya Gupta (Satya)

Dr. Satya is a materials innovation enthusiast and a materials scientist working in the area of mechanics of materials. His research interests encircles around micromechanical modeling of deformation behavior of structural materials using the inputs drawn from materials testing and characterization or lower time and length scale simulations. His educational and research background is an excellent combination of materials modeling and experimental mechanics which is very helpful in connecting the dots between experimental observations and simulation predictions. For Dr. Satya, the opportunity to teach, continuous interaction with students and the absolute freedom to work on interesting topics are the primary reasons for choosing an academic career. 

Dr. Satya started his research journey as a DAAD fellow between IIT Roorkee India and RWTH Aachen Germany in year 2010 where he investigated the TRIP effect in Metastable austenitic steels as his master research work. Thereafter Dr. Satya received IMPRS SurMat doctoral fellowship by Max Planck Dusseldorf for pursuing his Ph.D from ICAMS, Ruhr University Bochum Germany in the field of experimentally informed Non-local Crystal plasticity modeling of advanced structural steels. He received his Ph.D in the field of Materials Science and Simulation in the year 2015. After finishing his Ph.D, Dr. Satya spent several years (from 2015 to 2021) in USA, France, and Austria as a post doctoral researcher. During these postdocs, he worked on a series of materials innovation projects such as experimental and numerical investigation of Mg alloys, challenges associated with localization in Al-Cu-Li aerospace alloys, model development for Ni-based superalloys used for high temperature application, and discrete dislocation dynamics informed continuum plasticity models. After his extensive research journey abroad, Dr. Satya decided to join IIT Dharwad in February 2022 as an Assistant Professor in the department of Mechanical, Materials, and Aerospace Engineering (MMAE).
