A Second Type Registered Energy Manager is an individual who has been previously registered as a First Type REM for at least one year, holds a valid practising certificate, and has successfully completed the Second Type REM training and assessment recognized by the Energy Commission. This category of REM may be appointed by energy consumers with annual energy consumption exceeding 21,600 gigajoules (GJ).
The Second Type REM carries broader responsibilities, supporting high-energy users in complying with the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act 2024 [Act 861] by undertaking advanced energy data analysis, leading the implementation and continuous improvement of the Energy Management System (EnMS), preparing and validating statutory reports, and advising on strategic energy-saving initiatives. Their enhanced qualification and experience enable them to provide expert guidance in driving significant energy efficiency improvements and fulfilling the highest regulatory obligations under the Act.
