I completed a postgraduate degree, between 2018 and 2019, and graduated with a Merit in Applied Petroleum Geoscience (MSc) from the University of Derby. The course focused on petroleum geology, subsurface and basin analysis, geological and commerical risk and the application of geoscience within the energy sector.Â
Throughout the programme, I developed a strong foundation in subsurface interpretation by combining extensive field studies with the hands-on analysis of seismic data, well logs, and petrophysical datasets. The coursework emphasized building coherent models of basin evolution, reservoir distribution, and subsurface potential, while directly linking geological risk evaluation with commercial decision-making.
This technical foundation culminated in an research thesis, where I independently managed and delivered a detailed geological study from start to finish. Integrating diverse datasets into a sustained research project strengthened both my analytical capabilities and my confidence in applying geoscience to complex, real-world problems.
Overall, the MSc allowed me to build on my undergraduate foundation and develop a more applied, industry-focused approach to geology, with a particular focus on subsurface interpretation and basin-scale thinking.
