The sessions were held at Principal Chan’s Free Tutoring World on 2026 January 9, 10, 17, 23, and 24, and were led by Dr. Michelle Wing Tung Cheng, with support from the SDGxEL student ambassadors, project staff, and volunteer undergraduate and graduate students.
The initiative aimed to introduce primary and secondary students to AI as creative and critical end-users of technological innovations. Through hands-on, guided activities, the ambassadors taught students how to use POE (Platform for Open Exploration) to design and experiment with various AI-powered tools. These included themes like:
How to create image using the image generation bot
How to create video through the video generation bot
How to define a character for people to chat with using the role play bot
How to create a web page through the canvas app
The tutorials emphasized practical exploration, ethical awareness, and responsible use of AI technologies. The sessions aimed to emphasize SDG 4’s inclusive, equitable, and future-oriented education, equipping learners with the digital skills to participate in the contemporary learning environment.
The program also exemplified the SDGxEL Project’s experiential learning model, where the SDGxEL ambassadors apply their knowledge in real-world contexts while serving the broader community. By taking on the role of peer educators and mentors, they strengthened their own competencies in communication, ethical reasoning, and educational leadership, while contributing meaningfully to community-based learning initiatives. The collaboration with Principal Chan’s Free Tutoring World further ensured that the program reached grassroot students who could benefit most from accessible and high-quality learning opportunities.
Overall, the SDG 4 tutoring sessions reflect the SDGxEL Project’s broader mission to cultivate sustainability-oriented competencies by demonstrating how technology, when thoughtfully integrated, can support inclusive and transformative learning for all.
