Toddler Development
There are specific social/emotional milestones that toddlers should be hitting. While all toddlers are not developing at the exact same rate, typically they will be hitting similar milestones around the same time. Some of those include:
expresses feeling
learning to get along with others
learning to become more independent (Social & Emotional Development, n.d.)
It is important to encourage social/emotional development in toddlers. Some strategies that teachers implement in the classroom to help are:
Encourage them to try new activities on their own. For example, building a puzzle, putting together blocks, and playing with chalk.
Give toddlers a feelings chart and let them show you how they are feeling. Next, assist them in letting them know they are heard and how they can manage those feelings (Social & Emotional Development, n.d.).
