Infanthood is a time when children are developing so many new skills. It is important to encourage them in social/emotional development. Some milestones they will be hitting are:
smiling at recognizable faces
show emotions that they are feeling
feel jealous when threatened over losing an important relationship
experience separation anxiety (Honig & Wittmer, 2017)
Although infants are not in school yet, many infants may be in a daycare setting. For educators working in the daycare setting, they can encourage social/emotional development for infants by:
modeling gentleness towards infants, even during high-stress times
hold more than one baby if one gets upset that they are not getting held while you are holding another baby (Honig & Wittmer, 2017).
