What You NEED TO KNOW

An educational cognitive, oral language and achievement evaluation will identify any specific learning disability e.g. dyslexia. It will evaluate reasoning abilities, underlying psychological processes (e.g. working memory) along with academic achievement (reading, writing, maths) in the context of one's stage of development in comparison to others of the same age.

We all learn in different ways and have strengths and weaknesses. Schools and tertiary institutions endeavour to cater for individuals in many differentiated ways but sometimes specific information about how one learns is important to develop future growth and development. Strategies to maximise strengths, support weaknesses and develop self-advocacy skills are important aspects of the assessment process. An evaluation will also support entitlement for special assessment conditions for NZQA and university examinations.
