The Assessment Process

The Assessment Process

"The aim is to identify strengths and weaknesses"

What are the necessary steps for an evaluation?

1. Referral (this may come through the school, tertiary institution, parent, medical services or child services). Contact Gail by phone, email or use the contact page.

2. Interview/ communication with either self, parents/caregivers , and those involved with the child such as the child's teacher/s (with parent/caregivers consent). Parents/ caregivers will receive a relevant form from Gail to be completed to ensure the most effective evaluation will take place.

3. Assessment takes place and may be scheduled over 1 to 2 sessions. Gail tries to complete in one session but this is dependent on the child, circumstances and type of assessment. Gail will make arrangements for the time and place of the evaluation but these can be in the client's home. Evaluations take place in the Waikato, Thames Valley and Auckland areas, although other areas are negotiable.

4. Approximately 3 weeks after the testing, a comprehensive written report is provided to the client, parent or caregiver after payment is made. If appropriate, a diagnosis such as a specific learning disability in mathematics, reading or writing is made based on the testing documentation.

5. A feedback meeting via phone or Skype will be arranged to explain results and recommendations of the evaluation. Often teachers or other stakeholders maybe part of this process. A face to face meeting can be arranged although travel charges will be added.
