Contributing during the 2025/2026 School Year:
During the 2025–2026 school year, I worked within the elementary school setting, delivering student-centered instruction aligned to grade-level standards while intentionally integrating Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to ensure equitable access, engagement, and multiple means of demonstrating learning. Lessons were thoughtfully planned with appropriate scaffolds, differentiation, and opportunities for active participation, allowing all students to access rigorous content and experience academic success.
I fostered a caring, supportive, and empowering classroom environment grounded in mutual respect, consistent routines, and clear behavioral expectations. This positive and structured setting promoted student safety, engagement, and self-regulation, enabling students to take academic risks and develop confidence as learners. Through ongoing monitoring of student behavior and learning, I maintained high expectations while providing the support necessary for sustained growth.
Instruction reflected purposeful questioning, regular checks for understanding, and timely, responsive feedback to adjust instruction and address student needs. I emphasized student ownership by encouraging goal setting, independence, and perseverance, while collaborating consistently with colleagues and school staff to reflect on practice and contribute to a cohesive, positive school culture focused on student achievement.
Excelling during the 2024/2025 School Year:
During the 2024–2025 school year, I remained dedicated to being a student-centered educator who prioritizes differentiation, engagement, and rigor in every lesson. I consistently incorporated principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to ensure all students had equitable access to content, multiple means of expression, and opportunities to succeed—regardless of ability or learning style.
My classroom was rooted in strong behavior management and a culture of mutual respect, where students thrived in a positive, structured environment. I intentionally built a sense of community and belonging, creating space for every learner to grow both socially and academically.
As both a teacher and basketball coach, I emphasized leadership development, guiding students to build confidence and take ownership of their learning and actions. I also worked closely with colleagues, valuing teamwork, collaboration, and shared success across the school community.
Contributing in a Post-Pandemic World:
Teaching in the post-pandemic era has presented complex challenges that have required educators to adapt rapidly to evolving instructional landscapes. In response to these demands, I implemented new technologies, instructional formats, and pedagogical strategies aimed at addressing students’ academic and social-emotional needs. One significant success was the development of a standardized digital graphic organizer, designed as both a learning tool and a structural support to enhance student engagement and comprehension. My objective was to establish a consistent classroom routine while equipping students with a strategic framework to plan, brainstorm, and organize their ideas effectively. The integration of this tool, along with a predictable classroom structure, provided students with the necessary scaffolding to compose coherent and well-developed paragraphs. Evidence of this instructional impact is illustrated in the student work sample below.
Implementation of Resources
During the 2021/22 academic school year, I implemented curriculum which positively impacted student success through the use of Google Slides & Pear Deck. These two resources allowed me to create lesson plans and activities in a digital setting and still achieve student participation, scaffolding, equity, and engagement. This benefitted the classroom as some students switched mid-year to long & short term Independent Studies which allowed them to still access lessons.
Pear Deck/Google Slide Lesson- This lesson was a Google Slides/Pear Deck teacher-led activity which incorporated student digital interaction. During this lesson, the teacher helped students understand the 4 climates/regions of West Africa in order to build background knowledge leading into historical studies of the Early West African Societies. This lesson involved diversity of learning with multiple means of expression in order to engage student interest. For further information, click on the icon below.
Graphic Organizer- This assignment was a Google Slides graphic organizer writing assignment. In this assignment, students used the Google slides to complete the graphic organizer independently. The assignment was designed to be used as proper scaffolding to assist the students to write a complete paragraph. For further information, click on the icon below.
Drag & Drop Activity- This assignment was a Google Slides activity which encouraged student interaction by allowing the students to "drag and drop" the correct Chinese dynasty on the correct location on the timeline. This activity was used as an informal formative assessment of the students' knowledge in order to know if reteaching and/or continuing on with the unit of study's pacing plan was necessary. SEL Advisory Lessons/Calendar- As the SEL Advisory Coordinator of my middle school, I created daily Advisory Lessons for the students teaching the Habits of the Heart and Mind. This was used school-wide and taught students the social-emotional skills and habits needed to navigate the world around them. For further information, click on the icon below.
