4.NO.NF.5 Compare and order fractions having unlike numerators and denominators. Record comparisons using the symbols >, <, and =. Justify using a visual fraction model (proper and improper fractions limited to denominators of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12 , and 100).
Apply a flexible understanding of both vertical and horizontal orientation.
Goal:
Build as few fractions as possible to satisfy each constraint at least once.
Constraints:
Equivalent to 1/4.
Is closer to 1 than 1/2.
Has a denominator greater than 6.
Is less than 1/2.
Is greater than 3/4.
Has a numerator less than 4.
Make sure that you are showing all your work for each step, do not turn your fractions into decimals, I want to see your fractional work as you showcase both fractions for each constraint.
Justify how and why you built each statement by using visual fraction models such as fraction bars or fraction circles from our master manipulative list.
Be sure to identify which statements satisfy which constraints by also including comparitive symbols <, >, =.
Which constraints pair nicely?
Which constraints cannot be paired?
Is it possible to solve all constraints using 2, 3, or 4 fraction statements?
