ARTIFACT DESCRIPTION
This artifact is Google Slide Presentation that informs Altus teachers about our current "Acceptable Use Policies." It gives guidance on the proper implementation of AUP policies relating to staff, students, and parents. It provides action items that can be employed immediately and informs teachers about importance of an AUP during distance education. The resources this presentation links to helps all teachers and students to practice safe and equitable online learning and teaching.
IMPLEMENTATION
This presentation was shared with my colleagues during a staff meeting as a refresher on the “Acceptable Use Policies” of my school and as a guide to “best practices” in regard to promoting a safe and equitable online learning environment. All teachers are required to review and sign the AUP with each student upon enrollment and at the start of each year. This presentation is saved in our school’s digital library and can be accessed remotely as needed by new staff and veteran teachers who need a refresher on “Acceptable Use Policies.”
IMPACT
This presentation and training helped to create a shared vision for how technology will be implemented at my school (1a). The policies and pedagogy promoted helped to ensure a safe and equitable learning environment for all students (1b). It is the guideline all teachers adhere to in order to create a digital learning classroom that is safe, with clearly defined standards for all students and staff throughout our organization. This shared vision for our school directly relates to standard 1a, while the guidelines put forward in the AUP help to “facilitate equitable use of digital learning tools and content that meet the needs of each learner.” (1b) This has made an impact school wide by giving teachers clear guidelines for technology implementations that are equitable for all learners.
ARTIFACT DESCRIPTION
These artifacts relate to my role as the technology liaison for the Altus schools. As the technology liaison it is my job to help connect the leaders of various departments relating curriculum, school systems, and educational technology to create a unified vision and to maximize the potential of each department. The email artifact illustrates my role as the technology liaison to the curriculum leaders at my school, while the “Altus Schools Technology and Data Systems Integration Leaders” chart was created by me to recognize and connect school experts from across domains. (Names were hyperlinked to email addresses in the original version shared within the organization, but have not been provided here for the sake of privacy)
IMPLEMENTATION
As a member of the technology department it is my job to work with the lead teachers of each subject area to integrate technology into the curriculum in a meaningful way that leads to effective teaching and learning. Additionally, when issues occur within our school wide systems it is my job to connect experts in each department with the teachers who need their support. By working closely as a liaison with the department chairs, I was able to integrate technology across curriculums and subject areas in a way that complemented and enhanced my school’s vision. Additionally, by organizing all the department experts into the “Altus Schools Technology and Data Systems Integration Leaders” chart I was able to easily connect school leaders with the support they needed in a timely fashion, meeting the criteria for standards 1d and 1e. As a result of this, teachers, department leads, and tech support have been able to access the correct “expert” in order to receive support in a timely fashion from the best qualified source.
IMPACT
The impact of my role as technology liaison was felt school wide. Subject area departments were able to get technical support and advice quickly and efficiently, which led to a more diverse and effective curriculum. Domain experts and technical support was provided promptly which led to less frustration and increase in effective teaching strategies during distance learning (1e). As a member of the Technology department connecting experts, cultivating a supportive culture, and working effectively to integrate technology across the organization were my primary responsibilities (1c). I am proud that I was able to carry it out this role effectively, even while working remotely due to Covid-19. My work as the technology liaison not only helped me to meet ISTE standard 1d, by forcing me to recognize high impact leaders and my school, but it also allowed me to connect those leaders with the technical support they needed to improve our schools remote learning curriculum, which is the cornerstone of Standard 1e.

In 2018 I became a member of the Altus schools’ technology department. This department is made up of educational technology experts and leaders from all of the Altus schools. My role as the technology department’s liaison has helped me to not only recognize the leaders at my school (1d), but this role has allowed me to “connect leaders, educators, instructional support, technical support, domain experts and solution providers to maximize the potential of technology for learning” (1e). Additionally, my work helping to codify my school’s technology policies and vision allowed me the opportunity to train teachers on our AUPs and best practices. This training has helped to create a safe and equitable digital learning environment (1a,1b). All of this combined has led to a collaborative and supportive school culture (1c). I am very proud to have helped my colleagues and students as an agent for positive change. While I know I am still growing as a teacher and as a change agent, I feel that I have demonstrated proficiency with all of the aspects of standard 1.
