AECT Standards

AECT 1.1 Candidates demonstrate the ability to create instructional materials and learning environments using a variety of systems approaches.

Justification:

• Intructional materials and learning platforms created on multiple platforms including Google Sites, Blackboard LMS, Google Drawing, Google Forms, and Canva
• Instructional materials include video clips, teacher-made infographic, digital poster, slide show presentation, computer-based assessments, texts, and online worksheets
• Learning environments include learning management systems, student-monitored independent work, collaborative Google documents, graphic design tools, and community-based discussion forums

AECT 3.3 Candidates use multiple assessment strategies to collect data for informing decisions to improve instructional practice, learner outcomes, and the learning environment.

Justification:

• Fractions Unit:
  • Pre-Assessment ensures students are placed in groups according to instructional needs
  • 3 levels of fractions instruction, practice, and assessment during each mini-module
  • Multiple options for assessments, driven by student choice and with options for collaborative work
  • Rubrics provided for all assessments to ensure students understand assessment requirements

AECT 3.5 Candidates foster a learning environment in which ethics guide practice that promotes health, safety, best practice, and respect for copyright, Fair Use, and appropriate open access to resources.

Justification:

• Teacher uses disclaimer of "Fair Use" in website of classroom resources, helps promote educational technology by encouraging purchase
• Teacher resource guide also includes embedded articles and blog about best practices for technology implementation
• Resources provided are either cited or contain embedded hyperlinks to original creator page
• Online discussion forums accompanied with reminders for respectful, responsible comments

AECT 3.6 Candidates foster a learning community that empowers learners with diverse backgrounds, characteristics, and abilities.

Justification:

• Students choose from multiple means of assessments to find one that best matches their strengths and appeals to their interests
• Students encouraged to participate respectfully in online learning community where they may post questions, offer solutions, and provide encouragement to others
• Assessments do not have a time limit, and encourages students to work at own pace
• Instructional material includes manipulatives, videos, lectures, slideshows, worksheets, discussion boards, and infographics to promote understanding through diverse means of presentation
