We decided to provide instruction using a platform that fosters engagement and interactivity for our young learners. Our audience for this instructional solution consists of students ages 14-18 who typically have a preference for visual and auditory learning. Additionally, the visual reinforcement of key concepts will support learners of any generation, including those prospective employers of our students. Our platform or software also must have the capability to pace their learning and/or try again. The ability to learn at one's individual pace will allow for deeper understanding and an individualized learning experience. Furthermore, by creating a multimedia presentation we will align to technological trends and meet our students where they are.
To meet these standards and align with our design rationale, the platform or software that we select must have the following capabilities: audio or narration elements, graphics or video elements, interactivity for feedback and assessments, and WCAG accessibility standards (closed captioning, alt text, etc.).
We believe this method of instruction (multimedia presentation using a platform with the features above) will be more effective than a traditional 'sit and get' learning experience because it caters to the developmental needs of our learners and capitalizes on the advanced features and flexibility available when using technology as a learning tool. These strategies and tools will support diverse learners of all backgrounds and abilities. Additionally, this method is accessible and inclusive, which will help empower our learners no matter their prior experiences related to Educational Technology.
