ILLNESS:
If the Member is unable to dance due to an injury, or is sick and NOT contagious, the Member is required to watch class and take notes if deemed necessary by the Elevation Faculty member teaching such class. If the Member is sick and unable to participate, a phone call from a parent to the front desk must be made AND an absence form must be completed. The Artistic Director, in her sole discretion, may determine whether the Member will be able to continue participating in the Pointe program. In the event a Member will be at 3 absences due to illness or injury, please contact the Artistic Director immediately.
INJURY GUIDELINES:
If your dancer reports an injury to an EDS faculty member and is currently experiencing discomfort, limiting their full class participation AND if this pain continues, where your dancer needs to observe part or all of class moving forward, please follow the steps below to ensure a safe return to full participation:
Have your dancer attend class to observe and/or take notes so they can continue learning choreography and corrections.
Download and take the Medical Clearance Form to a licensed medical professional (such as a physical therapist or medical doctor).
Return the completed and signed form to the front desk, Studio Director, Studio Owner, or your dancer’s teacher before your dancer resumes full physical participation.
EDS faculty reserves the right to ask a dancer to sit out of class if it is evident that they are in pain or showing signs of injury.
We highly encourage open communication between dancers and teachers; however, please understand that EDS staff are not medical professionals and cannot diagnose or determine injury severity.
For safety and liability reasons, a dancer may be asked to observe class until cleared by a medical professional.
If your dancer chooses to participate in any class activity after reporting an injury, this participation is at the discretion and responsibility of the parent or guardian.
If your dancer returns with the signed medical release form and is still unable to participate fully, they will be expected to continue observing class, taking notes, and staying engaged in the learning process. Our goal is to keep injured dancers connected to choreography, musicality, and corrections so that their reintegration into full movement is smooth and successful once cleared.
Please note:
The signed form must clearly indicate any movement restrictions (for example: no jumping, no back extensions, no floor work, no pointe work, etc.).
If restrictions are not clearly listed, faculty will default to the most conservative interpretation to prioritize safety.
If a dancer is cleared for "limited participation," they will be guided by faculty on what portions of class they may safely join in.
If at any time a dancer appears to be in pain, faculty may again require them to observe until further clearance is provided.
Our priority is the long-term health and training longevity of each dancer. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure safe and responsible participation in class. and for helping us keep our dancers safe, supported, and set up for long-term success.
