DRESS REHEARSALS

EDS conducts two dress rehearsals the week of the recital at the venue preceding the show days. This allows students to become familiar with the theater and feel comfortable with their performance, costume(s) and being onstage. Lighting, music cues, entrances, exits, formations and all other logistics are rehearsed so the students have the best experience possible on stage.

Please note that participation in dress rehearsals is mandatory when it does not conflict with a school activity that directly effects a student's grade. Assigned rehearsal and show times will be published in the “Recital Reference Guide” that comes out in the Spring. If you know your dancer may have a school conflict, you must email the director.

Our dress rehearsals at the theater are closed to parents, offering an opportunity for your dancer to work out all the kinks before the actual shows. And when possible, dancers may have the opportunity to sit in the audience to watch the other groups rehearse.

Dress rehearsals are also very important for the faculty to rehearse the process of getting dancers on and off the stage, and running dances smoothly.

Our rehearsals are relaxed, yet organized and timely. Students should arrive in costume, with hair and makeup done. If we are not rehearsing the final bow, once they are finished rehearsing, they may leave, but many dancers enjoy staying for a while to watch other groups rehearse.

DRESSING-ROOM ETIQUETTE

Dancers will spend more time in the dressing rooms than onstage, so keeping these areas organized and clean—and respecting other dancers’ property—is important. A parent pep talk in this department goes a long way in preventing lost shoes and accessories. We also request dancers not to go into the theater or lobby areas in costume before, during or after the shows.

Drinks are not allowed in the dressing rooms, but depending on the venue, water stations may be nearby. Please limit snacks to portable, non-messy ones. No cameras are allowed in the dressing rooms.

DRESS REHEARSAL ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL

PLEASE DO NOT DROP YOUR DANCER OFF PRIOR TO THEIR CALL TIME, THERE WILL NOT BE ANY SUPERVISION FOR THEM IF YOU DROP OFF EARLY!

A parent or guardian should bring the student to the theater, where they will be checked in and placed under the supervision of their teacher(s) and/or parent volunteer. Younger students will be grouped with their class. Rehearsal schedules including arrival and pick up times will be announced in the Recital Guide.

If at the last minute your dancer cannot make it to dress rehearsal or a performance, please send us a quick text at (970) 507-4495
