PERFORMING GROUPS

From the recreational dancer to the Performance Company student, Elevation has a performing performing opportunities for every level of interest and commitment. If your child loves to perform, we are here for you!

Performing groups at EDS offer “More Than Just Great Dancing!” Older dancers mentor younger dancers and all participants are a part of a team of friends where everyone strives to be the best that they can be. Performing for our community is a key component, giving all Steamboat residents and visitors an opportunity to access the art of dance.

Members of our performing groups grow in confidence and competence through summer camps, rehearsals and community performances. They perfect skills, become more flexible, improve their technique and grow as an artist each week — all under the mentorship of positive role models.

Performing group members have a high success rate with auditions for college dance teams, show choirs, theaters and pageants, as well as choice college programs and scholarships.

Some groups also participate in regional competitions and conventions.

GROUPS OFFERED

• The Nutcracker (ages 4-Adult)

• Competition Team (ages 5 & up: groups, solos, duos and trios)

• Performance Company (ages 9 & up)

APPLICATIONS

Applications are required for every performing group and are typically released in the Spring.

AUDITIONS

For ages 6 & under, auditions are NOT required but the application is and casting is on a sign-up first come, first-served basis. Entrance to the EDS performing groups is by audition for ages 7 & up. Auditions are held at EDS before the recital each year, but results and casting will not be announced until the week after the recital. The auditions provide a positive, friendly introduction to a process they will encounter throughout their lives, whether auditioning (or interviewing for) for school athletic teams, college, other performing groups or jobs.

DANCE CAMP

Nutcracker cast members participate in a dance camp each August starting the week school is back in session. Faculty will teach a variety of skills and styles and set choreography for specific groups.

REHEARSALS

Performance Company members will have an opportunity to rehearse with EDS Faculty members once a week starting in April for the recital finale performance. Other performing group practice times vary year-to-year and are published along with other class schedules.
