Overview of the Project

For my EDS 199 Special Project, I collaborated with Barangay Sapangbato's Sangguniang Kabataan Council in Angeles City to design and develop an instructional design project. Our pre-assessments revealed weak project management skills, specifically in the areas of task division and time management, as their council's most pressing issue. The learners' backgrounds, learning styles, and prior knowledge of the subject area were analyzed to produce an instructional design that is tailored to their needs and relevant to their identities and roles as Sangguniang Kabataan council members.

This led to the development of three (3) Self-Learning Modules on project management which were designed using the learnings I acquired from multiple Bachelor of Education Studies courses I have undertaken in the past. This includes instructional and multimedia design principles, theories of learning, development of learning objectives, assessment methods, Open Education concepts, and models of Online Learning. These SLMs are further discussed in their designated pages (see Module 1, Module 2, and Module 3).

This instructional design project aims to address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #4 Quality Education which aims to ensure inclusive and quality education for all learners across the world. One of its objectives is to substantially increase the number of youth and adults equipped with relevant skills, including technical and vocational skills, by 2030 which they can use for employment and entrepreneurship.

The SLMs on project management developed according to their needs and background and underpinned by educational concepts and theories can strengthen the existing skills and knowledge of the Sangguniang Kabataan Council. This includes the planning, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of their youth-centered initiatives which aids in the fulfillment of their duties and responsibilities as official pioneers of youth development at the Local Government Unit. Furthermore, the SLMs can provide the learners with transferable skills in project management which they can utilize in their future endeavors beyond their service as SK Council members.

First and foremost, I would like to express my gratitude to my project adviser, Mr. Leynard Gripal, for guiding me throughout my journey in EDS 199. Without his expertise and assistance, this project would not reach completion and success. My experience in my special project has become less intimidating with his guidance and endless support.

I am also deeply indebted to my content expert for assisting me in evaluating and validating my outputs. Her feedback and suggestions helped improve the accuracy and quality of my learning materials. Additionally, words cannot express my gratitude to Mr. Dominic Vito Sese for generously extending his support in pilot testing my project. His teaching expertise and insightful feedback greatly contributed to the project's success.

I am also extremely grateful to our Dean Charisse Reyes, Dr. Celeste Tayzon, and Mr. Lexter Mangubat for providing me with significant feedback during the town hall presentation. The comments I received from them immensely helped improve my project.

Also, this endeavor would not be possible without my partner institution, our community's Sangguninang Kabataan Council who graciously welcomed me as a collaborator. To the chairperson and my gatekeeper, thank you for accommodating my questions and needs as an instructional designer.

Lastly, to my friends and family, especially my parents who constantly assured me when days were harsher and did everything they could to help me complete my project, I dedicate my success to you all wholeheartedly. Your faith in me is a source of incredible strength I will forever cherish.
