By the end of this module you should:
understand the course organization and expectations.
identify the communication technologies that your school or organization supports.
reflect on your previous experiences communicating online.
The purpose of this course will be to help you be more intentional in how you communicate with others online. Interacting at a distance requires different skills and strategies than what's needed to communicate in person. As a result, many in-person teachers find that they lack the skills to communicate effectively online. One online teacher explained, "In a public school I learned how to deliver the material. Online I've learned to communicate." It's even more challenging to blend online with in-person communication because teachers have to know how to strategically combine online and offline communication methods. We will cover a broad number of topics but the goal is to provide you with practical strategies and information that you can immediately apply to your interactions with students and others.
I understand that for many of you this is an especially busy and stressful week so this module will be on the lighter side compared to future modules. If you find that this week isn't so busy, please feel free to move on to Week 2 once you've finished Week 1.
Each weekly modules will have materials on this website and beyond for you to explore, read, and/or watch. This week the materials will help us to learn about the course expectations.

Video Introductions
What is Padlet?
Padlet (https://padlet.com/) acts like a digital cork board that allows students and teachers to post comments for others to see and reply to. It also allows students and instructors to share photos, videos, and audio recordings. You don't need a Padlet account to participate in this activity.
Activity
It's really helpful for me to put a name to a face. As a result, please post a video comment to this Padlet.
I'm going to leave what you share in your video post up to you but at a minimum please share your name and your current or future teaching context.
To make a video comment:
Click on "+" in the bottom of the screen.
Click on "..."
Click on "Video Recorder"
Record your video and post it for others to see.
Technology Inventory
Using a copy of this Google Document, please take inventory of the technology that you and your students have used to communicate and collaborate online or that you have access to but have yet to use. This is not a complete inventory but you should include at least 6 tools/programs.
Once you are finished, please share it with jeredborup@gmail.com and submit it using the following Google Form. Your grade will then be recorded in Blackboard.
