The Edinburgh Shetland Fiddlers (ESF) has been active since the early 60's making it a long established meeting place for players of Shetland music. It is not a club or society but an informal group of participants brought together by their appreciation and love of Shetland music.
The group is predominately fiddle players as that is the instrument of choice for the bulk of the music but other instruments are welcome if they can add to the overall sound and performance. Common instruments used include mandolin, whistle, tenor banjo with accompaniment usually supplied by guitar or piano. There are no age or ability restrictions and many participants come along to learn new tunes or maybe improve on the ones they already know.
This site focuses on non-changing information about ESF and includes sheet music for most of our sets of tunes. As the project has progressed we have also included many tunes and sets that are not regularly part of our repertoire. Some of these are non Shetland tunes played or recorded by Shetland artists. We have also made up some new sets from single tunes which we liked.
