PennWest Edinboro Student PSEA APEX 24-25
Dr. Mary Jo Melvin won the 2024 Edinboro SGA Noble Scot Award.
The Noble Scot Award is given to any advisor/co-advisor that is currently advising a club or organization. The advisor must hold a strong educational role within the group and has continued to help students learn through their involvement. The recipient demonstrates dedication, availability, and drive in their involvement with their students. They are valued and respected by those students with whom they work and have a strong understanding of the organization's needs and goals.
PennWest Edinboro Student PSEA won the 2024 Edinboro SGA Leaders in Action Award.
The Leaders in Action award recognizes an organization that has placed a strong emphasis on leadership development and campus involvement. This organization excels in serving its members by providing speakers, workshops, retreats, conferences, and other opportunities to continually educate its members. A successful organization likely has members that are leaders in multiple organizations and is very active in fostering leadership on the PennWest Edinboro campus.
Jess Porter won the 2024 Edinboro SGA Outstanding Alumni Award.
The Outstanding Alumni Award recognizes an alumnus that has made great contributions to their respective organization through involvement, financial donations, or membership development post-graduation.
Jess, a former state Student PSEA Vice President has become very active in educational activism with her work on social media and with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.
Bridget Bartlett won the 2024 Edinboro SGA Spirit of Service Award
This award honors a student who has participated in community service with vigor, devotion, and an unshakable positive attitude. This student serves with an inspirational and infectious optimism and leads the way for others through their actions and involvement.

Members came in for last celebration of the year for our End of the Year Picnic.
May 17-18th, 2024 (Pittsburgh, PA)
As the Northwestern Region House of Delegates Representative, Gavin Mitsdarfer joined the region and aspiring educators across the state at the May 2024 PSEA House of Delegates. There, Gavin spoke on behalf of new business items dealing with aspiring educators and protections for librarians under attack by book banners.
Gavin also had the opportunity to attend the PSEA Celebrating Excellence Awards and Dinner.
PennWest Edinboro member and leader, Gavin Mitsdarfer was elected to attend the NEA Representative Assembly in Philedelphia, PA. While at the NEA RA Gavin was active in the Pennsylvania Caucus Meetings and the Aspiring Educators Caucus Meeting dicsussing new business items dealign with LGBTQ+ educator safety across the country and educator preparation programs.
PennWest Edinboro Student PSEA member and leader, Gavin Mitsdarfer, was selected to serve as the Student Representative on the PSEA Legislative Committee. While in this committee, Gavin has spoken for the over 7,000 Student PSEA members while also being the reason why a fully funded student teacher stipend program is in the 2025-2026 PSEA Government Policy Agenda.
September 25th, 2024 (Edinboro, PA)
PennWest Edinboro Members in celebration of the homecoming festivities, join clubs and organizations around campus in a Banner Decorating contest. The contest matched the homecoming theme of tropical, so our members decided on a Chicka Chicka Boom Boom themed poster to recognize our contributions on campus and in the community.
As the Northwestern Region House of Delegates Representative and the Student PSEA Representative on the Legislative Committee, Gavin Mitsdarfer joined the region and aspiring educators across the state at the December 2024 PSEA House of Delegates. There, Gavin spoke on behalf of new business items dealing with the 2025-2026 PSEA Government Policy Agenda and guaranteeing all local EAs particpate in the Student Teacher Support Program.
Officers of the PennWest Edinboro Student PSEA tabled at the Spring 2025 Club Rush to both recruit more members and to encourage chapter meeting attendance. The event was themed around movies, so the board decided on a movie that took place in a school, Mean Girls.
