ECOTRAIN EXPLORING GHAR EL MELH LAGOON
09/10/24
Today, participants of the ECOTRAIN are visiting the Ghar El Melh lagoon, Africa’s first UNESCO coastal ecohydrology demonstration site! We’re engaging in fieldwork and connecting with local stakeholders to explore this vital ecosystem’s biodiversity, from planktonic microalgae to benthic fauna. Through hands-on laboratory sessions, we dive deep into understanding the lagoon’s ichthyological species, benthic macrofauna, and shellfish populations. This is an essential step in promoting sustainable conservation practices under climate change challenges.
