My working life has meandered through being a Child protection lawyer and mediator, co-founding Community Resolve and training as a cabinet maker. I have run my own birthing pool business and joined Eva in an organic, ethical nursery business. Along the way I have had two children, worked in an experimental school in India, helped start the Bristol Home Birth group, and spent some years involved in Co-housing Bristol. I have also enjoyed maintaining an organic no dig allotment and generally rummaging around making things.
I would like to leave this earth better than I found it and I hope that my children, along with all of their generation will have a chance to live healthily and happily on this planet
Where I currently live in South Bristol is great in the ordinary scheme of things. On top of that, through no virtue of my own, I have benefitted from the pernicious property price rises over the last 30 years. The same property price and rent system which leaves many struggling on a daily basis for somewhere warm and stable to live.
What I’m looking for now is a viable alternative to the individualistic, wasteful living cycle that I am locked into by virtue of living where I live and liking the comforts of modern life; I’m looking for a sense of community based on a more connected and respectful view of the earth and nature and the positive potential of human beings
What I want is people of like mind nearby who care about the environment and social structures that we are leaving behind for our children and grandchildren. People who want to do something about it and play their part by changing the way they live their lives on a daily basis, changing how they spend their money, changing how they spend their time.
So being involved in getting an Eco village off the ground which, not only demonstrates that houses can be built with protecting/preserving the environment at their core but which also decouples the cost of living in a home from speculative property prices, hits the spot for me and I’m prepared to put my time in to make it happen. That is about the sum of it!
