The rural EP Church Basic School was hosting a parent teaching organization meeting when we arrived to check in with the young girl using crutches. When she was younger, the group visited the school and found this girl struggling to climb the steps to attend classes. Then a young daughter of a nomadic family of farmers, her perseverance and determination to learn made a lasting impression on the travelers. Pastor Pat adopted her cause and provided funds for her schooling to continue.
Upon the group's return to the United States, his sister Mary organized an effort to build the ramp used to make the raised classroom accessible for this girl and others who struggle with mobility. Our visit in 2021 found the girl preparing for her exams, her family settled in the area, having received the Lord and been baptized into the church, but still struggling with medical expenses for the child.
We meet many people in our travels and it is a humbling moment when we realize that for the cost of a drive-thru lunch at home we can provide crutches that will grow with this girl who asked only for notebooks and pencils so that she can study to pass her exams. Because we have received so much, we are able to share so much more than others ask.
