Our Mission

At the heart of the ECLS lab is a mission to improve the lives of young children through evidence-based research and practice in advancing authentic, creative learning through computational thinking and STEAM education. We strive to bridge the gap between theory and application, translating our research findings into practical solutions that can be implemented in classrooms, schools, and communities. By working closely with teachers, school leaders, parents, policymakers, and funders, we aim to create a more inclusive and effective education system that meets the needs of all young children in today's fast-changing world that requires creative and critical thinking more than ever before.

Research

Our research focuses on a wide range of topics related to early childhood education, including child development, curriculum design, instructional practices, assessment, and policy. We use a variety of research methods, including experimental studies, surveys, interviews, and case studies, to explore these topics and generate new knowledge and insights. Our research is guided by a commitment to rigor, relevance, and impact, and we strive to disseminate our findings through peer-reviewed publications, conferences, and other channels.

Teaching in Higher Education

In addition to our research, we are also committed to providing high-quality teaching and learning experiences for students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. We are passionate about teaching and mentoring the next generation of educators and researchers. The PI, Dr. Weipeng Yang, is actively involved in a variety of courses and programs in early childhood education, including a bachelor's degree program, a master's degree program, and PhD and EdD programs. 

Teacher Training in Early Childhood Education

We believe that high-quality teacher training is essential for improving the quality of education for young children. That's why we offer a variety of professional development opportunities for teachers, school leaders, and other education professionals. Our teacher training programs are designed to provide participants with the knowledge, skills, and strategies they need to effectively teach young children and support their development. We offer both online and in-person training programs, as well as customized training solutions for schools and districts.

Services

In addition to our research, teaching, and teacher training activities, we also offer a variety of services to support the education community. These services include consulting, evaluation, and practitioner research assistance. Our consulting services are designed to help schools, districts, and other organizations develop and implement evidence-based education programs and policies. Our evaluation services are designed to help organizations assess the effectiveness of their education programs and policies and make data-driven decisions. Our technical assistance services are designed to provide organizations with the support and resources they need to implement evidence-based education practices and policies.
