SOUTH ASIAN BIOETHICS COMMUNITY
South Asian Bioethics Community is set up with the explicit aim of bringing together healthcare ethics peers from South Asia and supporting them within the community. We welcome Global South scholars to join this community and support each other.
Vision
To emerge as a prominent network/community for contributing to center ethics discourse and activities from the South Asian perspective and works which are priority to us.
Goals
To bring together healthcare ethics peers from South Asia and support each other within the community through educational activities and capacity-building initiatives.
To contribute to global bioethics discourse and scholarship but from the lens of LMICs.
To provide a platform whereupon members can seek assistance and rely on support from peers and experienced scholars. This can include PhD funding opportunities, collaboration networks, opportunities and fundings for relevant conferences, informal mentoring etc.
Why?
Being part of this community enables access to a large network of scholars.
Organizes regular research seminars which prioritize South Asian context.
This network organizes specific workshops for early career scholars (mostly online). Topics included: reviewing papers, working paper feedback, writing an academic CV, preparing academic articles for peer review, turning your thesis into a book, accessing and sharing resources and writing research grant project proposals. These sessions offer an opportunity for early career scholars to take advice and ask questions in an open and friendly environment with peers and experienced scholars.
Provides a platform to discuss the immediate needs and concerns, and possible ways in which this network can address (for example, through organizing targeted brainstorming sessions or tailored workshops).
SABC was founded in 2022 by Supriya Subramani, with the invaluable support and collaboration of a dedicated team of anchor members. Amar Jesani and IJME was key to facilitating and supporting this community. It continues to thrive and be sustained through the active involvement of many core members.
