The ECBN is set up with the explicit aim of bringing together bioethics graduate students and early career scholars around the globe.
Why?
Being part of this community enables access to a large network of scholars and to get support and to feel a sense of belonging in the bioethics community, especially for scholars from the Global South.
To create space for critical conversations and to become aware of challenges and desires of ECRs.
This network organises specific workshops for early career scholars (mostly online). Topics included: career development initiatives, reviewing papers, preparing academic articles, turning your thesis into a book, accessing and sharing resources on writing research grant project proposals, building a profile, and preparing for future leadership careers in addition to academia, contributing to committees. These sessions offer an opportunity for early career scholars to take advice and ask questions in an open and friendly environment with peers and experienced scholars.
Bring in multiple perspectives by inviting early career scholars of diverse identities. Improve representation from the Global South.
Provides a platform to discuss the immediate needs and concerns, and possible ways in which this network can address (for example, through organising targeted brainstorming sessions or tailored workshops).
