In May of each year, we invite the students to attend an overnight trip as a celebration of their accomplishments throughout the year and to compete against other groups. This trip is not mandatory but highly encouraged if the student is interested. We use this trip as a culmination of the all of their hard work throughout the year. All of 6th, 7th and 8th grade EHBOA students are welcome to attend.
This year the trip is scheduled for Friday May 8th and Saturday May 9th to Doswell, Virginia. We will be going to Kings Dominion. We usually leave Friday in the morning, hit up an educational spot on the way and have a packed lunch. We then travel some more and go to dinner together. We then check into the hotel (4 kids to a room – which they can pick) We wake up early to have breakfast, go to compete with our music ensembles, go to Kings Dominion, go to the awards ceremony and then will be home by midnight on Saturday.
Trip Form to Fill Out - This agreement must be submitted with your electronic signature whether or not your child plans to attend the Spring Trip to Dosewell, VA on May 8 -9, 2026. By signing this form you are indicating your agreement to the terms and understanding of the information below. This form must be completed and initial deposit must be done by October 17th.
Below are a few FAQs and answers below to hopefully explain the trip. This is an exciting trip for the students and we hope to have as many students go as possible. If your child has not been on an overnight trip before this is a great first experience. We travel together, have very little downtime, and are scheduled down to the minute.
Are 6th graders invited?
Yes, any student of EHBOA is invited to attend.
Are chaperones with the students the entire trip?
Chaperones are with the students the entire trip except for at Kings Dominion. Students must stay with at least one other person, of the same gender (so they can use the restroom together) throughout the park time and must check in with their chaperone every hour or so. They are welcome to hang out in large groups as well.
Will my child be able to pick their roommates? What if my child doesn’t know who to room with? Can they room with different grades and different groups (i.e. band front, orchestra, jazz)
Your child can absolutely pick their roommates from any grade or EHBOA ensemble. If they need help finding 3 other roommates we can help them.
Should my child bring cash/car/apple pay? What will they need to buy?
Most places will take debit card / apple pay. As we get closer we will be more specific about each of the places. Students will pack their lunch for the first day and will need to purchase a meal on Saturday at the park. Other than that, any money brought will be just spending money.
What is included in the cost of the trip?
Charter buses, hotel, Air and Space Museum, Dinner on Friday, Hotel overnight, security throughout the night, breakfast in hotel, Kings Dominion entrance, 1 meal at park.
Can parents come as chaperones?
We would love as many parents to come as possible. Please note that you will not chaperone your child unless there is a medical need. Chaperones will be in a room with one other adult. If you don’t know anyone we can match you up. Chaperones will be on the same bus as their roommate.
How many kids to a chaperone?
We try to have four 6th grade students to a chaperone (since this is their first trip) and eight 7/8 grade students to a chaperone.
What do the students and chaperones wear on the trip?
Friday they wear blue or black athletic pants, or khakis, or jeans , sneakers, and East Hills polo. On Saturday the same thing but a trip shirt will be provided. They can change into shorts after the competition.
Can we Tag along but not chaperone?
You are more than welcome to come see the students perform at the competition but we will not book any accommodations, tours, or theme park tickets for you. You are also not permitted to follow the buses. When I have the hotel info (usually in February) I am happy to pass it along.
How do we pay for this trip?
The payments are broken down into five payments. You can either pay by check/money order or on cheddar up. You can also fundraise throughout the year which goes into your “student account”. The account will be listed on our website (currently under construction) under your child’s student ID. If you have enough money in the account to cover the payments there is no need to send in money or you can send in the difference) You can always check your balance once the website is up.
