The Young Justice was created by the Justice League in a project to unify a new generation of heroes and offer shelter, schooling, and supervision to these teenagers who found themselves in the world of vigilantism.
The project is operated from the Mount Justice, with direct access to the Watchtower, where the League organizes into rotating teams to mentor the superhero team.
Tired of the monotony created by the Justice League's tireless training, the team's first mission was done in secret. They intercepted an alert message sent to the League and decided to intervene without their knowledge.
The message led them to the Department of Extranormal Operations, which the team decided to stealthily invade to find the mysterious message sender. This is how they met Greta Hayes, also known as Secret, and helped her escape from the place.
The spectral hero spent weeks hiding at the Mount Justice until she was accidentally found by Zatanna and was officially incorporated as part of the team. The discovery that the team had acted alone without their mentors' knowledge resulted in months of punishment, but it also proved to the League that they were wrong; the Young Justice was already ready to operate.
The young heroes were also responsible for defeating Bedlam, also known as Mordred Le Fay, son of the sorceress Morgana, who was eternally trapped in his infantile form. This motivated him to separate the earthly plane into two—one for adults and the other for youths. It was up to the team to undo the spell with the help of Champion Marvel, the only one capable of maintaining communication between the team and the Justice League.
Secret's story also continued to unfold as the team helped her unravel her long-forgotten past. This led them to her teammate's hometown and the eventual confrontation with her brother, Harm, who was responsible for the girl's death and was an unstoppable occultist.
In a mission to attack Professor Ivo's lair, the Young Justice was able to rescue Red Tornado, a robotic hero from Poland created by Doctor T.O. Morrow and who had been missing since the great Heroic Age when he acted alongside the Justice Society. This made the android a valuable ally to the team, who began to offer to mentor the team sporadically.
By invading an Intergang resource transport, the team crossed paths with the vigilante Rocket, who believed she was a lone wolf and chose to work alone. But after being captured with the young heroes and held hostage by the Intergang, she had to learn to cooperate with the group to find an escape. This made her a possible, albeit reluctant, candidate to join the team. They only managed to escape thanks to Super-Cycle, a sentient vehicle from New Genesis that decided to ally with the young heroes' cause.
Currently, they are being pursued by Sportsmaster, a persistent and menacing villain who wants to reconnect with his estranged daughter, Arrowette. She reveals her true identity, origin, and her family's connection to the criminal world to the group. She even considers leaving the team so she can distance her evil parents' presence from the group, but the Young Justice quickly dismisses this possibility, stating that the only way to face them is together.
