Cissie King-Jones, better known as Arrowette, is the reluctant prodigy of archery, raised under the strict guidance of her adoptive mother, the one-armed Olympian Bonnie King. Once a young girl seeking love and stability, Cissie was instead shaped into a living weapon—an arrow fired by her mother’s ambitions and regrets.
Cissie’s story began with tragedy. After the death of her biological father, she was entrusted to Bonnie King, a former Olympic athlete and celebrated archer who had once fought at Oliver Queen’s side. Bonnie had lived a life of brilliance and promise until it was shattered when she lost her arm during a mission gone wrong. This injury ended both her sporting career and her days as a vigilante, leaving her bitter and unfulfilled.
Seeing in young Cissie a chance at redemption—or perhaps revenge—Bonnie imposed on her a strict and unforgiving training regimen. For Bonnie, Cissie was not simply a daughter, but the vessel through which she could relive her stolen legacy. At Bonnie’s demand, Cissie learned the bow with relentless discipline, mastering every shot and trick, her childhood reduced to a series of bruises, competitions, and drills.
When she came of age, Bonnie ensured that Cissie would inherit the mantle of Arrowette, dressing her in the crimson costume and sending her into the field alongside Green Arrow. For Oliver, she became a sidekick; for Bonnie, she was proof that their family’s story would not be erased. But for Cissie, it was a role she accepted with hesitation, her true self lost beneath layers of expectations and anger.
Though she operated with precision and bravery, Cissie often felt the suffocating weight of her home life. Her lavish apartment in Gotham’s suburbs—a product of Bonnie’s ties to wealth and status—felt more like a prison than a sanctuary. The memories of her father’s nocturnal visits, her mother’s obsession with appearances, and her forced training haunted her, leaving her yearning for freedom.
She questions whether Bonnie’s guardianship is truly rooted in love or in revenge. After all, Bonnie’s career was ended by the villain Sportsmaster, and Cissie wonders if her entire upbringing was simply a weaponized response to that old wound. At times, she dreads that Bonnie’s ultimate plan may be to send her against her own estranged father, a task that would test every bond of loyalty and identity she has left.
Long before she wore the crimson mask of Arrowette, Cissie King-Jones had already walked the battlefield under another name, in another life: Artemis Crock.
Artemis was born into shadows, the daughter of assassins and mercenaries, raised in violence and taught to kill before she could even speak of love. Her life was a cycle of conflict and betrayal, always pulled between the pull of family loyalty and the yearning for freedom. Unlike the polished, structured world Cissie would later know, Artemis lived in raw survival, every arrow fired in desperation rather than discipline.
