Welcome to e-mentor site Prevention Program
In order to achieve the first 90 of the 90:90:90 target, it is proposed that community based screening (CBS) will be implemented through TI and LWS across the country. CBS is important for improving early diagnosis, reaching first-time testers and people who seldom use clinical services.
TI programme should ensure coverage of at risk populations for HIV screening, while prioritizing newly registered groups, groups of young people, groups that get repeated STIs, abscess, etc., or are not using condoms or clean needle/syringes regularly, regular partners, etc. or groups that have never been screened/tested.
HRGs should be identified and facilities (or alternative facilities) should be selected to suit the convenience of the groups.
Audio-visual privacy should be ensured and informed consent documented at all screening facilities.
Step: 1 - Ensure that the kits are in good conditions (refer the Kits box, clearly mentioned indicator of kit conditions in different colors, check the box left side corner. Also the expiry date)
Step: 2 – If the kits in good condition, run the positive and negative control before start testing. (if the testing not run for more than 15 days, you have to run the control before start the testing)
Step: 3 – Carry the kits in the cold chain box only. The staff should not carry the kits simply without any cooler box.
Step: 4 – Before start testing the staff have to ensure that the testing place is convenient to do testing. (Privacy is must. Don’t do the testing in a public place or in front of other HRGs, we have to maintain the confidentiality of testing result)
Step: 5 – In the testing place, use one sheet of paper to keep the kits and other sheet of paper for equipment.
Step: 6 – Use the gloves before start the testing as per the steps given in the training/ demo video.
Step: 7 – The permanent marker to write the PID number in the each kit.
Step: 8 – Use the swab to clean the finger clockwise.
Step: 9 – Punch the needle inside of the finger (Don’t punch in middle)
Step: 10 – Drop the blood in the middle of the allotted place in the kit (Don’t spill the drops of blood over kit )
Step: 11 - Then leave the three drops of buffer in the allotted space whole blood kit.
Step: 12 – Read the result in 10 minutes
Step: 13 - Follow the instructions given below to after reading the result.
Step: 14 - If found positive, navigate the person to nearby the ICTC for confirmation test, the respective counselor will provide the post-test counseling.
Step: 15 – If the person confirmed as HIV positive, the TI counselor will navigates the person to ART for registration.
TI team should ensure that protocols are followed for maintaining universal safety precautions. During offsite camps, a lot of bio-medical wastes are generated, which should be treated and disposed of as per NACO’s BWM Guidelines (2019). All TI and LWS staff shall be trained on cold chain management and bio-medical waste management.
Wash your hands before putting them on and when changing to a fresh pair. Make sure they fit properly. A glove that is too big will not stay on your hand, and one that is too small will rip or tear easily. Grasp them at the cuff and peel them off inside out over your fingers.
