To begin, they became familiar with 'What are Pixels?', and how the game Minecraft is a great visual example of such. They also began to create with colored pencils and grid paper to see how they would look when pixelated.

Next, the students were able to use Perler Beads that looks similar to pixelated characters. They were provided with various colors of beads.

Finally, students begin to brainstorm the background for where their portrait will be set!
