The next day, when the students enter the classroom, they would take out their recipes with the ingredients and percentages for their recipe complete. They would then place their recipes in the front of the classroom in a pile. I would use a fun method for randomizing the partners who would switch recipes. For example, students seem to respond very well to a random wheel generator. Once partners are made, the partners will swap recipes. Here's where the connection to the unit comes in. Students will be responsible for taking the percentages of the original recipe and converting them first into decimals and then into fractions. Once converted, the students will swap recipes back to confirm the recipe is still correct. The students will then take their partner's recipe home and attempt to create the dish to be brought to class on Day 3 for a cultural festivity.Â
