Mr Oliver Preston

Affiliated Researcher / PhD student

Oliver is an affiliated member of the the DVU group since October 2022.  He is a PhD student at the Dynamics Research Group at The University of Sheffield working on machine learning methods to understand and visualise the performance of nonlinear structures in operating conditions to avoid failure. This research is co-supervised by Dr T.  Rogers, Prof. K. Worden  (University of Sheffield)  and Dr A. Cicirello (Advance Visiting Fellow in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Sheffield), and is funded by EPSRC and Schlumberger (EPSRC iCASE).

Oliver completed a MEng in Mechanical Engineering at The University of Sheffield in 2021. His final year research project involved implementing subspace identification techniques to automate modal property detection.

Oliver has a great interest in applied mathematics to help solve engineering problems. He is currently focused on applying neural network techniques with engineering principles for non linear situations.
