Mr Luigi Sibille

PhD Student (NTNU), Visiting Researcher (UCAM)

Luigi Sibille is a PhD student at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). His research focuses on developing SHM systems to ensure the structural integrity and operational safety of ferry quays. By utilizing real-time data acquired by a full-scale operating quay he aims to assess structural health, identify potential hazards, and provide timely warnings for necessary maintenance. The research is part of the project Magerholm Research Quay (MRQ) and is supervised by Prof. T. Nord, and co-supervised by Prof. B. Siedziako, Prof. A. Fenerci, and Prof. G. Frøseth.

Luigi obtained a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Politecnico di Torino in 2019 and an MSc in structural engineering from Politecnico di Torino in 2021. He completed his MSc thesis on “Clustering strategies in Automated Operational Modal Analysis for Structural Health Monitoring” in October 2021.

Luigi joined the DVU group in June 2024 during his research visit at Cambridge University. He will combine physics-based model analysis with machine learning to create robust and accurate approaches for detecting and predicting damage in ferry quays. By doing so, he aims to improve the reliability and interpretability of SHM systems, making them more effective in real-world applications.
